Jenny Eclair (real name: Jenny Hargreaves)
became a punk performance poet in the 1980s. According
to urban myth, she acquired the name 'Eclair' while
pretending to be French at a Blackpool nightclub.
Like the sweet she named herself after, Eclair is
an acquired taste. People either love her or loathe
her. Her strong, aggressive, foul-mouthed, hard-drinking,
chain-smoking persona can be too abrasive for some.
Behind this larger-than-life character is a very
funny, awesomely skilled stand up comedian. Turning
forty has added to new element to her act, but rest
assured, she still brazenly fails to act her age.
She's been on our screens regularly since 1991, when
she co-starred in Packet of Three with fellow rising
star, Frank Skinner.
Jenny Eclair is also (to date) the only female to
win the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival. |
