Garter and Quail had a big following last year when they performed in the "politically unco" circuit - which as we know was brought to a close by those closley monitoring freedom of speech. Seems there is only a handful of things we are allowed to laugh at in this country (as oppossed to the US and britain - whom we happily dedicate prime time viewing too)
Anyway, I got to speak with creator and performer Simon Roptell after the show and he told me a little bit about himself. In 2001, he and Joseph Smith were writing students at UTS and they brought out NUTS a satrical newspaper that was slammed by watchdogs because of its politicall incorrect content. But its love by the people meant that its circulation survived and they had a monthly readership that was in the thousands(The most succcessful fictional publication ever at UTS). in the last few years he and fellow comedian Morgan Dehar did stand up in several underground shows in Australia, New Zealand and Amsterdam.
Recently there names have been poping up because Garter & Quail is now a film and it has attracted some big names.
Anyway Humor comedy fans, will keep you posted on the progress and a big thanks to Ray from Comedy zone for supplying a space for comedy fans/journalists. x
